  • Songs

    Ash’s first love

Songwriting style and genres include musical theatre, jazz ballads, soft pop, little ditties, and more. Instruments include voice, piano, guitar, ukulele, and more.

Purchase their sheet music, commission Ash to write a new song for you (with or without providing lyrics), or follow their song journey on YouTube.

  • Vocal Tracks

    Ash's newest venture

Ash will use AI software to generate vocal guide tracks for your choral or theatre song. These tracks are sung by AI, so gone are the days of instrumental midi tracks for learning purposes.

See below for lots more info.

New and original music can be a vital expression of new ideas, fresh perspectives, and creativity.

Commission Ash to bring your vision to life!

Scope

This section outlines general details for brand-new commissions where text and/or music does not already exist. (For information about choral arrangements of existing/copyrighted songs, see here.)

Timeline

A three-month minimum is required for new works, and a 25% rush fee is requested for quicker turnarounds. Generally, five to ten months is preferred for most commissions and projects. This will give us time to collaborate on the project, which can include: creating/securing/collaborating on text, discussions on vision, providing you a short sample of the piece during development to ensure your goals are met, etc.

Cost

Commissions will generally include composing, engraving, digital score(s), part extraction if necessary, and basic computer-generated audio files of the score/parts. (AI-rendered vocal tracks can also be provided upon request.)

  • Choral music (a cappella or with piano accompaniment): $250-650 per minute

  • Songs (voice and 1 instrument): $75-150 per minute

  • Other: contact Ash with details for more information

All fees are negotiable and may vary greatly based on the number/type of instruments, desired style/difficulty of piece, and estimated length of piece.

Payment is usually requested 1/2 upfront at contract signing and 1/2 upon delivery of the score(s).

Composition: “My Body Tells a Story” for ANNA Crusis Feminist Choir

“It was gorgeous. I was amazed at how it captured the theme of the women in the book. Four of them attended the concert and were just blown away by how embraced they felt and heard. Thank you so much for what you gave to so many by your music and creativity.”

- Donna L. Torrisi MSN, author of Tattoo Monologues

Composition: “Unmistakable Softness” for NYC Gay Men’s Chorus

“Totally blew me away. I had the pleasure of getting to know the composer, Ash, briefly through my work with Chorus Connection, and I just couldn’t think of a more deserving person for an NYCGMC commission. What a beautiful, heartfelt, important piece. I’m so glad it exists.”

A four-week minimum is appreciated for new arrangements, and a 25% rush fee is requested for quicker turnarounds.

Arrangements will generally include composing, engraving, digital score(s), and part extraction if necessary. (AI-rendered vocal tracks can also be provided for an additional $25.) A specific vision for your arrangement is always welcome but not required.

  • Choral arrangement (a cappella): $350

  • Mashup, medley, or parody.: $550+

  • Transcription: $200

  • Revoicing (an existing arrangement by Ash): $150

Vocal Guide Track Creation

You Provide

  • XML file of the arrangement (Sibelius, Finale, Dorico, or MuseScore files are also fine)

Ash Provides

  • Individual tracks (per voice part)

  • All Parts track (balanced)

  • Accompaniment Only track

  • Click track upon request

Note: any divisi generally gets its own track, e.g. Tenor 1 Upper, Tenor 1 Lower, etc.

Cantamus vs Synthesizer V

Cantamus vocal tracks have clearer pitch and rhythm, are easier/quicker to create, but do not support swung rhythms or tempo alterations (multiple tempos are fine, but rit. and accel. are not fully supported).

Synthesizer V vocal tracks are more human-sounding, offer much more nuance/control, but are far more time/labor intensive.

Ash will default to using Cantamus unless you request otherwise or if the song utilizes swung rhythms or critical tempo alterations.

Cost

Pricing may vary based on additional factors, but generally:

  • $75 for new song, Ash will use Cantamus, ~3 day turnaround

  • $100 for new song, Ash will use Synthesizer V, ~1 week turnaround

  • $25 for new song when you’re hiring Ash to compose/arrange

  • $25 for tracks that exist

    • This mostly applies to arrangements of Ash’s, but they also have tracks for other songs they’ve worked on for various choirs. (If you want tracks for a song Ash did not arrange but is in her database, you’ll need to provide a receipt or proof of purchase of the arrangement you want tracks for.)

Peruse Ash’s current spreadsheet database of existing tracks available for purchase.
